The Triple Tiara... The filly-only version of the Triple Crown. A prestigious title, claimed only once in the past by Born To Soar. Now, several years later, another champion had been named. Paradise Island, of Silver Stride Stables. No one was really sure where she had come from, her bloodlines were a mystery and there had never been an official announcement as to where she had been purchased. But she had claimed victory after victory, had officially been the first in her age group to reach Grade One, and now another prestigious event - the claiming of a series.
“…Now Eternal Phantom and Paradise Island's riders are putting their fillies to a drive. The black and bay erupt, leaving Winning Touch a little stunned. They have made up two lengths on Midnight Thriller. Eternal Phantom and Paradise Island are moving purposely, moving together. Midnight Thriller still leads and her rider shakes the reins. And she responds! She spurts away! She has regained her lead up the stretch, her four length lead. I am in shock. The wire is nearing! Where is Paradise Island?! Where is Eternal Phantom?! She is cruising, two hundred yards from the wire. Eternal Phantom and Paradise Island are sending dust up in their wake, trying to gain on the sudden rival. Winning Touch is about a length back, trying to get her bearings in all of the kickback. The top fillies are succeeding in gaining ground! They have to be running! Midnight Thriller isn't stopping! They have to be moving faster. Paradise Island is showing her grit, as is the already game Eternal Phantom. They have made up two lengths and now one and they are roaring in on Midnight Thriller. The Akita Rose Stable contender is suddenly swarmed but she is fighting back! Diving heads and rushing muscle race to greet the wire. They are nose and nose! Neck and neck! I can't see the winner from my vantage point! Is it Paradise Island! Is it Eternal Phantom! Is it Midnight Thriller! I can't tell! They scorch beneath the wire together in a line… Born To Soar is no longer the only Triple Tiara winner! Paradise Island has dived to victory! But she will not go down along in the record books as the winner of the Year Twelve Coaching Club American Oaks! Eternal Phantom has dead heated for first with Paradise Island…”
The Turf Triple Crown, viciously attempted and never before won, was a sought after prize among nearly every stable, fought so hard for and still failed that it was thought it would never be seized. But it was her season, and no one would soon forget it. Within Year 13, Bella Luna of Witch Creek Stables was absolutely unstoppable. A force to be reckoned with, the world looked on as she campaigned after the racing world’s most illusive gem. Descended from the son of Sea Biscuit, she ran her way to G3 status and struck out to take on the best three year olds in the country, Italian Ice, Blue Me Away and Ode To Glory. The result would be phenomenal.
“…And Ode To Glory is forging a break neck pace! He is pushing even Italian Ice off his feet as they round for home. Blue Me Away is struggling, Bella Luna is fading out! It seems that once again, the Turf Triple Crown will be denied! The favorite is failing, the crowd is absolutely roaring, the noise is deafening. Ode To Glory is not letting up! But Bella Luna suddenly has her feet under her, she seems to be gaining… Ode To Glory is slowing down, he cannot take his own pace. Italian Ice is cruising again, he has blown past Ode To Glory and Blue Me Away has followed. Their jockeys are pushing hard, it is a battle for blood on the track and Bella Luna has not yet made it to the party. Reese Balling Jones desperately jockeying for position, they have now caught Ode To Glory and are not giving him the time of day! Ode To Glory had been lost to a cloud of dust as they enter the home stretch, and the favorite filly simply will not quit! She is eating the ground, a simple white streak. If ever their was an incident where a horse could fly, it is now! Bella Luna has caught Blue Me Away, she has caught Italian Ice but they are not letting her by. And she will have to…Unbelievable! She has opted to go around, Bella Luna is pulling around and she has pushed herself into overdrive. I have never seen anything like it before, She is pulling a race many did not think she had in her. And now she is passing Blue Me Away and Italian Ice and they couldn’t stop her if they wanted too, she is a force that cannot be reckoned with. As they enter the final furlong it is just unbelievable what Bella Luna has pulled out of herself, I’ve never seen anything like it. She is pulling away now and she is going to be the Turf Triple Crown Winner. There is an entire length between her and Blue Me Away and Italian Ice, and though they are fighting hard they are not going to catch her. And she has crossed the wire! The crowd is absolutely screaming, Reese Balling Jones throws up a hand in celebration, hats are flying and there, out in the audience we see Ripley Marsh, the proud owner of the first ever TTCW winner…”
Within the bounds of the early Year Fourteen season, Dare To Impress was rather unknown. Her two year old season consisted of only six starts, though one of them was high stakes. It would be completely unexpected for her to enter into her third year of racing as the future Turf Triple Crown favorite. However, the racing season came around and she won every race in her campaign up to the TTC, running powerfully under Valkyrie Racing Stables. When the Kentucky Oaks finally rolled around, everyone would be in for a surprise, one that would continue when Dare To Impress’s finally leg in the TTC approached and Valkyrie backed out from racing completely. The filly would from there be handed over to the capable hands of Grayson Meadows, but the results would never be the same. Still, she will be remembered for her fantastic attempt, and her consistent rivalry with The Devil’s Hourglass.
“..And Call Of The Wild is simply all over Dare To Impress, and The Devil’s Hourglass is not giving her any kind of break, the pace is instead being pushed even harder. As we enter the back stretch, Daddy’s Overdraft has completely fallen off the pace, they’ll catch her today. Call Of The Wild had complete murder in his eyes, he is out for Dare To Impress without fail, and The Devil’s Hourglass is enjoying the resulting ride. She is opening now, and Dare To Impress is still being just mugged by Call Of The Wild, it really just does not look good for the TTC hopeful…But she slips past! She has slipped past Call Of The Wild and is now running after Devil’s Hourglass, Call Of The Wild in hot pursuit. Four lengths off the pace Daddy’s Overdraft can’t get her legs under her, back at the front Dare To Impress and The Devil’s Hourglass are trapped in a speed dual, and it’s uncertain if Dare To Impress has enough left in her to keep up. It seems that The Devil’s Hourglass is opening…and WHAM! Call Of The Wild has dropped in from nowhere, he has pushed out Dare To Impress and the filly has fallen hopelessly behind. The Devil’s Hourglass is firing away, Call Of The Wild struggling to catch up and it doesn’t look like he will, Dare To Impress simply does not have enough ground left and…The Devil’s Hourglass has crossed the wire! She has shut down Dare To Impress, there will be no Turf Triple Crown winner…”
