You Need a Break, Darling (Chris)

Elena couldn’t believe that they went through another fight, this time with the wolves. She was at the Ministry when it happened and used her metamorph powers to see what they were up to and quite frankly, it had been where her early training was quite handy. Now that this was over though, they were loaded with more paperwork and less fieldwork. Luckily, being in charge of Chris’ security meant that she wasn’t stuck in her office all day and it was one of these times where she went to see him at work because let’s face it, it was the only time they could see each other lately because of that. “Chris, darling.” She said as she announced herself and made sure they were alone. “I figured you could use a break and I got the files you asked for.” She said showing it to him and placing it in his office. Though, that wouldn’t mean she’d allow him to touch these yet. “You want to get a cup of coffee to clear your mind?” She asked him, tilting her head as she studied him. He looked tired they probably all needed vacation at the right moment.

She was starting to consider her retirement plan but then again, could she really handle being a normal old lady and spend time at home? She didn’t believe so. She just wished there’d be less paperwork and more fun work. Since they were alone, she took the liberty to walk behind him and wrap her arms around him in a light embrace in order to convince him he needed a break.

Chris was too absorbed in the reports from home, comparing them to the ones he'd just received for the attack they'd just gone through. It wasn't just in England they were dealing with a spike in rogue wolves. He had a hunch if he got hold of someone in the French ministry, the reports would be similar, if not the same. Elena's entrance into his office didn't catch his attention until she put the files down near him. "Hm? Oh, thank you, dear." Yes, she was his head of security in a sense, but who cared. At their age? Do what you want, to hell with everyone else. Not to mention, his first wife was long gone, the second... Well, he was waiting on news of that. The woman left him long ago when she'd had their daughter. So having Elena? There was no foul in his mind about that.

At the mention of coffee, his brain perked up a little. That was probably a good and bad idea all at the same time. Elena's arms around his shoulders were soothing in itself, but the offer of coffee was definitely not off the table. "Coffee might be good. I won't turn that down if you want some. From what Pollux told me this morning, the twins are teething more, so we may be up all night as it is. May as well be productive if we are." He loved all of his grandchildren, they were his joy in life. But teething... Oh teething, how he'd blocked that out after his own children, at least the three that were biologically his.

Elena was aware of the working load that Chris had to go through and sure hoped that she would make things easier for him when they were together at home. Work was work and she always enjoyed a bit of action but nowadays they seemed to prefer to have her presence in the Ministry after what happened. It annoyed her; she had proved her worth for quite some time and she could handle both positions but at the same time, she understood they wanted her around Chris. They did attack the Ministry after all and almost killed their newly acquired wolfsbane potioneer from what she remembered. She nodded at him as he thanked her. “Anything for you.” She said and smirked a bit. Hey, she may be old but she still was a woman.

“I do not miss that time either but it’s alright, we’ll be good grandparents as always, coffee it is.” She agreed with a smile. “Do you want to go out to get some or have intimacy in your office?” She asked him with a bit of mischief in her eyes as she said so. She started wondering what option he would pick hence he looked like he could use a long break, like a vacation.

Christopher knew that was a lie... Anything for him? No, anything that Elena wanted to do for him. Which, getting coffee for him while she was getting some for herself? Yes. Protecting him? Yes. Beyond that? Very questionable.

When she said they would be good grandparents as always, he had to chuckle. "Just don't forget, we have our children to contend with as far as raising them. Do you remember how bad the girls were about switching identities in school? I even think Dumbledore put a spell on the school that Metas can't change their appearance on the grounds." His girls had been absolutely awful. Well, two of the three. Pheobe and Persephone would constantly turn into Callisto, and make three of her wander around the castle, confusing their teachers to no end. And of course, Cal was in on it too. At the offer of 'intimacy in his office, Christopher looked up at Elena with his own mischievous grin. "You may want to read what Archer brought to me earlier." He dug out a folder that his phoenix had brought him earlier and placed it on top of everything else.

Elena needed the break too but it seemed that Chris needed it the most. She couldn’t blame him though; after the werewolf attack, everyone was swamped with paperwork and she included herself in the lot. She tended to manage to avoid it most of the time but lately, she just couldn’t and often she was preferred to stay in the Ministry instead of going on the field which was rather ridiculous in her opinion because she was probably the one who was the most trained of all Aurors reunited in here. Not only did she have magical ways to go through things but she also had muggle ones that ended up being quite handy in the long run.

“Dear, I’ve had children on my own too which you have yet to meet but I can’t say they’re as chaotic as yours.” She said with an amused smile. His family certainly was an entertaining one and so werethe Falcos. She had raised her children the right way though and she had a feeling they might think that her new family is a jungle but she didn’t care. She liked it that way. “Oh?” She asked him, curious now that Chris had brought up that there might be something she would be interested in reading. “Are you trying to distract me to my goal there?” She then asked him with a smirk. Work could always wait for a little first they needed coffee.

No, Elena's children had been more well behaved than his children. His? His daughters, all three, had been chaos on legs. His sons? Forget it. Blair and Layla were absolute angels as children, then Niki was the tornado of the bunch. But given she was the baby, it made sense. "My children are definitely something. But you get used to it after a while." He never regretted adopting Cal and Seph, they'd needed a secure family member, both having been in precarious situations as children. And they fit so perfectly with his boys and Pheobe.

Elena's 'Oh?' and the question of distracting her made him smile. "Go get coffee love, it's not going anywhere. We're both going to need the coffee I think. And I think we can stay here a bit longer, it's not late enough yet for the twins to be asleep, I'd rather get work done at home in peace and quiet. Even if Pollux is snoring, it's still better than the twins screaming."

Elena could be pleased with herself that her children were angels compared to Chris’. Sure, they had their times where they were little devils but this was part of childhood and after that, they were more than behaving. They were respectable adults and she was proud of them. She just wished that they would come on good terms with Chris because they needed to know that she wouldn’t be a widow forever; it took her long enough to find someone she might be willing to spend what was left of her life with! It was definitely better than dying along that was for sure. “That’s true, I’m never bored when I encounter someone from your family or any of the Falco.” She said with a light laugh. “I know I have to be a bigger threat to Dimitri if we want him not to ruin his life.” She said. It might be worthy to give it another shot some other time and this time, she could drag her dagger friends with him and threaten him for real.

She was more than curious as to why he wanted her to go get them coffee but was willing to play along with it. “Fine, I’m stuck being here for paperwork so might as well be a secretary and get coffee. I can’t believe how you all Ministry staff think I’m better off indoors instead of out!” She said, obviously not angry by this, and nodded agreeing to the fact that they could stay longer in there. It was true that dealing with these children might not be restful. “That’s true.” She said before waving at him to get the promised coffee. It took her a few minutes to go to the cafeteria and she got them two cups of strong caffeine before she went up in his office. “Delivery is here. Where’s my tip?” She asked jokingly.

Christopher had to smirk at the comment about his and Jaxon's children. "Well, with a werewolf for a father, are you surprised at the Falco crew? And my brood... Well, they hang out with the Falcos too much. That includes the Kojote boys and Stefan. And my girls had James Potter and Sirius Black in the year above them, and Sirius's little brother Reggie in their year, so my kids aren't innocent either. As far as Dimitri... That's another animal altogether." Dimitri... What the hell were they going to do to him, to get him to realize he was going to ruin himself in every way possible.

"Well, you could go outside, Jax wouldn't get anything done though, he's too protective of me. And we all know it's safer to have you somewhere nearby. Keep my brood and his from pestering me nonstop about someone pissing someone else off." Grown children, but they did complain quite often when Elena wasn't around to scare them off.

While Elena went for coffee, Christopher pulled the large yellow envelope out of his desk and placed it on top of the paperwork that was to be filed. The one that held documents that they'd both wanted to be signed for years. His divorce papers from his now ex-wife and Pheobe's absent mother. When asked where Elena's tip was, he tapped the envelope. "Right there. You'll enjoy it I think. But I'd advise sitting down to see what's in it first. You might get a shock."

It had taken him literal decades for him to get Annadora to sign the documents in that envelope. They'd appeared on his desk earlier, his phoenix Archer following close behind. And a note had been in the envelope too. Which made him laugh. Annadora had said 'Here you old goat, you have your divorce'. That made him laugh, and he'd left the note in there with the documents, guessing Elena could use a good laugh herself.

Elena had to say that their family was full of colors in terms of personality. Just when she thought she’d seen it all someone else popped into the portrait and proved her wrong. While her children were so predictable in a sense that she had raised them to be that, the new families she was attached to showed her that they could definitely keep her occupied if she needed a little bit of action. “Not at all, it makes it even more entertaining, have I to say.” She nodded when he referred to his own kids and the influences they had on their peers. “It’s no wonder why they’re so chaotic.” She said with a laugh and Dimitri definitely was another animal. “I have to agree with you he needs a good kick on the butt I need to be more convincing with my daggers if I meet him again.” She said with a light sigh.

She nodded agreeing with Chris there. “That’s true and I am trained for that not you.” She reminded him, she didn’t talk much of the training she went through but Chris knew that she had specific training on her own.

Elena came back with coffee for both of them and she had noticed the yellow envelope right when she put one cup of coffee for Chris. “Here you go hon.” She said with a wide smile but was unable to keep her eyes off that envelope. “Oh? I have to look at it now then!” She said cheerfully before she sat down and placed her cup of coffee on his desk since she was warned she might be in shock. “My my, what have we here!?” She exclaimed quite surprised. “That is wonderful news, I love that love letter she wrote for you, such a caring woman.” She said with a smirk as she snorted.

The comments about his and Jaxon's brood of children, plus Dimitri needing a good kick in the ass just made Christopher laugh a little and shake his head. "Trust me, Dimitri needs more than a kick. Christina's been upset a lot lately or looks like she's been crying. So I'm wondering if Dimitri has a hand in that or not. I know Ed will take care of her, but I'm definitely keeping an eye on Dimitri. He's constantly reeking of booze too lately. I'll have to ask one of the others about what exactly it is he's been doing in his off time." His nephew was going to basically drink himself to death. He wasn't going to allow that.

The mention of not being trained to be his own bodyguard made him nod a little. "True. I've got some training, but I'm also very rusty. Where you and Jax are much sharper on those skills than I am as of late. And you both are so much more intimidating when I need you to back me up in some situations. Jax being a werewolf, and you my dear, tossing your knives in the air like you do when you're annoyed or bored."

Christopher let Elena look over the file that he'd gotten earlier that day, smirking when she commented on the 'love letter' in it. "Given it's taken what? Almost thirty years or so? It makes me wonder what made her give in finally. Either way, I'm now a free man finally. Being tied to that woman has been torture, I'll say that. Every time back home that someone asks how my 'wife' is, I have to rehash that she's been estranged from me for almost three decades." Pheobe's mother was an awful person. She hadn't been when they met, but as time went on, she'd turned into someone absolutely horrible. He was more than happy to keep his daughter from her mother. The final straw had been her affair with his brother, in which his brother ended his own life off of Annadora's balcony at their home here in the UK. Which of course all three of his children saw.

"I'll take a copy and toss it on Pheobe's desk tomorrow, give her some good news. The boys can find out from her. But she deserves to know that her mother finally relented and signed the papers that have been waiting for well over twenty years at least." Christopher sipped his coffee while he sat back, eyeing his bodyguard and partner in crime. "So does that satisfy the requirement of a tip?"

Elena listened to Chris as he talked of Christina and she nodded, concerned. “I hope she is alright, but you’re right, Dimitri needs to open his eyes before it’s too late. It’s sad to see one of your children wasting themselves away like that. It’s not what you want for your family.” She said with a small sigh. Though, even if you saw things coming ahead from past experiences, there wasn't much you could do other than watch them make their mistakes. Hopefully, his mistake won’t cost his life. It was the toughest part of being an old geezer.

She smirked when he said he was a bit rusty. “I could help you get some training but I don’t think it’d be very efficient; you’re way too much of a distraction should I say.” Sure, she could be professional when need is but hey, they were old and they were allowed to slack on duty more than the younger workers that were in the Ministry. They’ve given their parts. She had to laugh when he complimented her on her dagger skills. “When I’m bored is even funnier, some people can get quite entertaining reactions.” Especially when she hit right next to people’s faces and the targeted person realize she could have gone to their head if she wanted to. Seeing their faces turn white was rather amusing. Maybe she had a bit of a sadistic side.

“She might have tried to see your ass with mine, she must not like the idea of sharing it.” She said teasingly. “Well, you’re not as free seeing you’re with me now.” She said to him. She could understand him. Luckily, it didn’t happen much to her as most of the time, they were afraid to even question her!

“I agree, Pheobe needs to hear the news too, I’m sure she’ll be delighted by it.” She smiled and gave him the file back and nodded, agreeing with him. “It does, those are wonderful news.” And she said that with true happiness.

Christopher had every confidence that Edward would help Christina if needed, and that Dimitri would be kept in line either by his father or even Edward. "I have the feeling Edward will get between them if need be, and once Jaxon has half a second to rip into his son, he will. We don't call him the Big Bad Wolf for nothing."

He chuckled at Elena calling him a distraction. "I could easily say the same about you, my dear. Sometimes it's difficult keeping an eye on the meeting and an eye on you. Mostly making sure that you don't throw something sharp at someone annoying everyone in the room. Especially when you're bored. You're most dangerous when you're bored my dear." Especially in meetings where they had to deal with affairs from back in Bulgaria. The people that worked in that ministry were usually very self-sufficient, but often became quite the pain in the ass when not given the proper attention they wanted.

At the thought of his now ex-wife not wanting to see him with someone else, Christopher couldn't contain the laughter. "Trust me, She prefers not to see me at all if she can help it. I can't even recall the last time I saw her if I'm completely honest. And as for being free, I simply meant from her claws. I have no issues with you." Issues with Elena's clutches were the furthest thing from his mind. She was one of the few people he could ever see himself dating if that's what they were calling this thing between them.

When she handed the file back, Christopher whistled, getting his phoenix Archer's attention. The more crimson than scarlet bird jumped off his perch and onto Christopher's desk, right on top of the file he wanted delivering to his daughter. "Take that to Pheobe, please. And don't start a fight with Sapphire. If the four of them gang up on you and pluck you raw, it's your own fault." His bird wasn't stupid, if anything Archer was probably too smart for his own good. He watched as the bird disappeared with the folder leaving behind a few small feathers. "I think he's close to burning day again..." He held up one of the small red feathers, twirling it between his fingertips. "So my dear, since I'm done going through the things Jax left on my desk, what else do I need to do?"

Elena nodded. She was glad how the conversation was going and that Dimitri would be taken care of. She didn’t like watching people destroying themselves as he was doing and she wished to see him happy and married. That’s what she’d wish for all of the kids she ended up knowing from being around Christopher. “Hopefully it will give him enough of a wakeup call to settle down and have a family of his own, and if he doesn’t have a family, to at least live a happier life.” She knew that they had to let them do their mistakes and learn from them but it was truly painful to watch. “I’m just glad my kids don’t give me that amount of problems.” She admitted to Chris, relieved of that fact.

She smirked when he mentioned having to keep an eye on her during meetings. “Hey, I know pretty well when you are bored at a meeting so I’m doing you a favour, remember that.” She said as he accused her of being a handful when she was bored at meetings. She couldn’t deny the fact though, it was annoying as hell to be stuck with people who were trying to impress the other people. “I’ve always needed action in my life, you know that.” She added, winking at him at her last words.

She nodded, glad that she was making him laugh and relaxing a bit. He needed that; people as old as they were shouldn’t do so many hours even less when they were about to be stuck in an office! “That’s great because I’m not about to let you go. We don’t have much time left so we have to make a blast of it.” She said, taking a sip of her coffee.

]She watched Christopher when he sent the bird and the files to Pheobe. “I have a few ideas of what we could be doing and it all depends on where you want to do that.” She added, smirking at her own words. It was rare they were having some alone time and she wanted to make the most of it.

Christopher had a feeling Christina was the one Dimitri wanted to settle down with, but he would cross that bridge when they got to it. Right now Dimitri was towards the bottom of his list of things to be done in the next few days. "Your kids are saints and angels compared to mine and Jaxon's broods." Their kids kept things amusing, that was undeniable. He just silently prayed that his grandkids weren't going to be as much of a handful as their father was. Or their Aunts and Uncles.

Elena was definitely making him laugh a bit tonight. "Yes, I remember that very well. Which was why when Jaxon wanted a replacement, you came to mind very quickly. A deadly beauty if you will." Too many people would mistake Elena for being just a pretty face. Until those knives of hers came out. Then they stepped back. Several paces at least.

"You're stuck with me my dear. I've grown into a habit of having you around. You've become something of addiction in a sense. Plus I prefer having someone who doesn't go off for months at a time with other men, leaving children at home." He took that jab at his ex-wife without a single drop of shame. The woman was unfaithful to the extreme.

Typical Elena answer to a question. "Well, depends if you want to go home, where the twins should be in bed, but I can't promise that. Or if you want to stay here. But I guess it all depends really on what you have in mind." He knew Elena, she wanted something, and she would get it eventually. By hook or by crook.

Elena couldn’t help but laugh as he compared her kids to the ones he was in touch with. That was true, they were poised and perhaps a little too straight but that was mostly due to the mentalities they were with back in the days. She was a much less severe person now and wouldn’t mind watching her kids doing their own things. Oh, she was doing that now and keeping in touch with them, visiting them whenever she could but it wasn’t the same. She figured that going to different countries made her view things differently. “They definitely are, and they might be taken aback by their wildness.” She mused. They never had a family gathering, with both of their families that is but Chris had seen some of her kids already.

“I like that, a deadly beauty, I can’t help it with the training I’ve had back in the days, it’s quite funny to see their reactions though, keeps them awake.” She knew how boring meetings could get and she liked frightening the shit out of some people when she saw they were getting bored and it was important. She also liked messing with them when she was bored, Chris knew her too well! “That’s something I can deal with, being stuck with you that is.” She said slightly amused. It was better ending her life with someone she appreciated than being lonely, that was a certainty.

She couldn’t blame the man to be a bit bitter with his ex-wife, especially when he told her a few dibs of their past. She had never been like that with her husband, seems like fidelity didn’t work out with everyone that is.

“We can stay here a bit longer, I like the peacefulness of staying after hours and God knows when these kids might get upset and wake up in the middle of the night.” She liked a bit of time for herself before playing the role of a great aunt.
